Why Obesity Rates are High in Children?

The obesity rates are rapidly rising for American children and health professionals, parents as well as media is talking about the adverse consequences almost every day.

President Obama and his wife Michelle have decided that government should regulate people’s diet and lives so that obesity rates among the population and especially children can be controlled. There is a campaign by government to regulate and dictate school cafeterias to serve more meals with fruits and vegetables, and less sugary soda or oily burgers.

However, this strategy largely focuses on diet and that too only during school hours. Almost no mention is made of unhealthy amount of time spent in front of television, computers which often leads to mental anxiety, stress and pre-occupation with undesirable material online.

Moreover, the time spent in front of television and computers means time missed to finish homework, get good grades and do physical exercise. Lack of commitment at school means higher anxiety and stress which can also contribute to obesity.

Therefore, it is difficult to attribute obesity to just sugary soda and fatty foods and society must look at the whole lifestyle including time spent during the day and activities performed which contribute to obesity and dullness.

Instead of watching sports, soap operas and dramas, children should be encouraged to go outside and play sports, and aspire to become part of the school hockey, baseball, football, or swimming team.

Playing a sport with other kids will lead to greater levels of physical activity, improvement in mood and mental balance, and reduce obesity.

At the same time less time will be spent in watching harmful television programs and internet gaming sites.

Have you been looking at the children in schools and colleges. If you ever have passed by any school or any eatery in the past 5 years, then you must have seen the increasing waistline of children. This is a rising problem that developed countries need to develop as soon as possible. Obesity is a chronic disease or a condition where the fat in the body accumulates to excessive levels. Fat is body’s way of dealing with cold, or for shock absorption. But when not controlled it begins to accumulate layers after layers. This continues to accumulate till the person keeps eating and is alive. The person is overweight and unable to do what a normal person at his age should be able to do.

As many parents consider, being fat is not healthy, it is a really alarming health concern. It bring along with it other host of diseases like the body’s increased resistance to insulin, high blood pressure, High cholesterol which will lead to a heart attack, Gallstones, cancer, Cognitive heart failure, Osteoarthritis, and other heard concerns. Hence a person should have a healthy and balanced lifestyle where the calories he consumes need to be burned and not let to accumulate. Taking care of what one eats, the frequency with which one eats, the carbohydrate and fat content of the foods that one consumes and the exercise that one does can lead to saving one self from severe cases of obesity. Parents can avoid giving children with fast food just because they ask and should promote out door activities more than spending time indoors in front of the idiot box and the internet. An obese person has the option of going for liposuction where the fat from the body is sucked out and the excess skin itself pulls itself back.

Obesity in Men

Obesity is becoming a major problem in men across the country these days and doctors fear that too many men will live their entire life without losing the weight around their belly. Too much weight around a man’s belly can cause serious medical problems such as heart disease, stroke, heart attack, diabetes and some forms of cancer. If some men do not get rid of the weight around their belly they will risk developing one or more of the medical conditions mentioned above during their lifetime. The hardest part of living with obesity is the fact that it is incredibly easy to put on the weight but it is almost impossible to remove that same weight from the body.

Men are typically seen as more active than the fairer sex but tend to ignore their health because of family responsibilities and the pressure placed on them in the workplace. Men who are overweight also have the risk of developing prostate cancer and even infertility. The United States National Eating Disorders Association outlines a list of behaviors common to men who are obese. Living with obesity can be one of the riskiest things a man can do during his lifetime. If a man is obese he should consult with a physician to determine the best course of action for losing the extra and unnecessary weight he has put on their body. Not all obese men will be able to exercise for too long of a period because of the weight they have on their body. Too much weight on the body puts an incredible strain on the heart, causing palpitations and shortness of breath in most obese men. Any exercise regimen should be monitored by a doctor or another medical professional when it comes to men who are obese for various health concerns.
